BISD to Recommend Approval for New Superintendent
Today at a special called board meeting, the Brownsville Independent School District will recommend approval to select Dr. Rene Gutierrez as a lone finalist for Superintendent. 

Dr. Gutierrez is currently the Superintendent for the Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District.

Roma ISD Superintendent receives top honor
Carlos Guzman of Roma ISD has been named the 2019 Regional Superintendent of the Year. Mr. Guzman will represent the Region One area in the Superintendent of the Year Award Program. Mr. Guzman has served the Roma ISD community as its educational leader for the past four years. He is credited with “raising the profile of the district to be known as one of the highest academically performing school districts in the Rio Grande Valley and the state of Texas.
Texas district votes to fire teacher who tried to report undocumented students to Trump on Twitter
A Texas school board unanimously voted to fire a teacher who tried to report undocumented students in her school district to President Donald Trump through a series of public tweets — that she thought were private messages to the president.
The Fort Worth Independent School District  voted 8-0 to terminate the employment of Georgia Clark  at a special meeting Tuesday. She still has an opportunity to appeal the vote with the state,  NBC Dallas-Fort worth reports .
Socorro ISD celebrates families, reading in Latino Family Literacy Program
The Socorro Independent School District honored parents who participated in the sixth annual Latino Family Literacy program at an end-of-year celebration.
The event featured Ernest Mejia, a son of Mexican immigrants who talked about his life and obstacles he had to overcome to be successful.

Guests also enjoyed refreshments and entertainment by Socorro High School’s mariachi and folklorico dancers from Mission Ridge Elementary.

House passes immigration bill to protect ‘dreamers,’ offer a path to citizenship
​The House on Tuesday passed a bill that would offer a path to citizenship to more than 2 million undocumented immigrants, including “dreamers” who were brought to the United States as children.

The vote was 237 to 187 for the American Dream and Promise Act of 2019, which would grant dreamers 10 years of legal residence status if they meet certain requirements. They would then receive permanent green cards after completing at least two years of higher education or military service, or after working for three years.

Stanford student examines bilingual behavior of children at Texas preschool – Austin is her hometown!
As the daughter of two Mexican immigrants, Stanford senior Alma Flores-Perez grew up fascinated with languages and bilingualism in her hometown of Austin, Texas, where many locals, including herself, are raised speaking two languages: Spanish and English.

That lifelong interest sparked her to research how other young bilingual children form their identities and distinguish between their two languages.
