Superhéroes for kids
We’re pleased to announce the super superintendents who will be part of the annual TALAS Superintendents Panel at the MASBA conference next Friday, March 1: Juan Cabrera of the El Paso ISD, Dr. Paul Cruz of the Austin ISD, Dr. Matthew Gutiérrez of the Seguin ISD, and Joe López of the Taft ISD will be inspiring attendees with the great things that are happening in their districts!

The Annual MASBA Conference will launch at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, March 1 and conclude at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, March 3.

The Drive to Thrive
Last week the Dallas Association of Hispanic School Administrators (AHSA) hosted the inaugural Latina Roundtable: The Drive to Thrive. AHSA President Nancy Bernardino welcomed over 75 Latina administrators, teachers and executive staff to an exciting evening of inspiration, hope, and fellowship. Dallas ISD Chief of School Leadership Stephanie Elizalde served as the keynote speaker. Congratulations to AHSA for a very successful event for comadres!
Expert: Bilingual students more likely to succeed in school, go to college
Being bilingual or even multilingual should be seen as an asset and resource to schools and communities, rather than a deficit that needs to be remedied, said Maria Franquiz, a bilingual education expert and University of Utah professor who spoke at Baylor University on Tuesday.

EPISD teachers make house calls
Teachers from Johnson Elementary and Morehead middle school spent their President’s day going from door-to-door to understand their students better.
Teachers spoke with parents about the services their children are receiving at the campus.
Edgewood ISD asking families to host house meetings
Edgewood Independent School District’s new superintendent is visiting residents at their homes. He says he wants to hear about improvements the community would like to see in the district. It has been six months since Eduardo Hernandez, who hails from the Dallas area, was selected by the EISD Board of Managers to lead the district.
